Kempers Woods Is Site Of Our Annual Members’ Meeting

Chippewa County Land Conservancy’s Annual Meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 13 at 6:30 PM at Kempers Woods. It’s a celebration of a successful project and a chance to take a springtime guided walk around the property. (We might even get to see a few “birds in the hand,” as well.) In addition,Owl
Dr. Kemper will join us and will be available to sign copies of his book, Birds of Chippewa Land. A fund-raising campaign and a Knowles-Nelson Stewardship grant resulted in the recent acquisition of the property by the CCLC, after which it was transferred to Chippewa County. County staff have since been involved in site planning and minimal development. Mike Dahlby, who led much of the work on the project for Chippewa County Land Conservation Department, will introduce us to the property and lead an evening walk around the preserve. He’ll also explain how it fits into a larger land protection project in the surrounding area. The annual meeting will be brief, and will include an election of three CCLC directors.

Three board members will be elected. Current members Jerry Brost, Alison Sazama, and Dan Simonson are seeking re-election to the board. Jerry currently serves as Treasurer,Alison is President, and Dan is a member of the land management committee. Participants will have a chance to win a copy of Dr. Kemper’s book chronicling his 50 plus years of bird observations in the area.

Dr. KemperOur thanks to Dr. Kemper for the donation. As you walk the trails or page through the book, you’ll know why we protect special places like Kempers Woods.

How To Get There

Kempers Woods is located at roughly 15400 50th Ave., in Lake Hallie. To get there, turn off Hwy 124 onto southbound Woodward Ave and immediately turn left onto Prairie View Rd, which takes you around K-Mart and eventually heads east, turning into South Ave., and then 50th Ave. After passing over the Hwy 29 freeway, look on your right for the preserve. Some piles of sand and gravel are located across the road from the entry drive.
